Job Duties and Responsibilities:

As a School Occupational Therapist, you will play
a vital role in promoting independence, participation, and academic success
of students. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting
    assessments to evaluate students’ fine motor skills, sensory processing,
    visual-motor integration, and activities of daily living.
  • Collaborating
    with teachers, parents, and other professionals to develop and implement
    individualized education plans (IEPs) that address students’ occupational
    therapy needs.
  • Providing
    direct occupational therapy services to students, including interventions
    to improve motor coordination, handwriting, self-care skills, and sensory
    regulation.
  • Designing
    and implementing therapeutic activities and interventions to support
    students’ functional abilities within the classroom and school
    environment.
  • Monitoring
    and documenting students’ progress towards goals and objectives, and
    adjusting intervention plans as needed.
  • Providing
    consultation and training to school staff on strategies to support
    students’ sensory and motor needs.
  • Advocating
    for the inclusion of occupational therapy services within the school
    curriculum and promoting a positive school culture that values diversity
    and inclusion.


Requirements

To excel in this role, candidates should meet the
following qualifications:

  • Master’s
    degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program.
  • State
    licensure or eligibility for licensure as an Occupational Therapist in
    Georgia.
  • Experience
    working with children and adolescents in a school or pediatric setting.
  • Strong
    assessment and intervention skills, with a focus on evidence-based
    practices in occupational therapy.
  • Excellent
    communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate
    effectively with students, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Commitment
    to ongoing professional development and staying current with best
    practices in occupational therapy.
  • Passion
    for advocating for the needs of students with diverse abilities and
    backgrounds.
